About the stroll:
Charlotte's Trail of History is a 2 mile loop along the Little Sugar Greenway extending from Morehead Street to 7th Street and passing in front of Central Piedmont Community College. Along the Trail's walking path is a series of bronze statues of important Queen City leaders who made significant contributions to the development, character and success of the city.
About the art:
The life size and larger bronze statues are created by nationally-known sculptors, and the subjects are selected by local historians. Currently, there are 15 bronzes including statues of Catawba Chief Haigler, Captain James Jack, Thad Tate and Jane Wilkes.
About the history:
On our tour, we walk along a portion of the trail and stop at a number of the commemorative bronze figures to learn about their specific contributions to the city and also what was happening at that time in the development of Charlotte as a city, particularly the major social, economic and cultural issues. Topics include: the birth of the nation, segregation, women's suffrage and the industrial revolution.
This tour has something for everyone. An excellent overview of the story of Charlotte, a chance to get some steps in, plus a great skyline as a backdrop!

A loop around one of Charlotte's most popular districts from Plantation to Milltowns to Artists Studio and Beyond!
Charlotte's well-loved NoDa district is a natural habitat for QC Culture Vultures. The area developed in the early 1900's when textile mills fronted North Davidson Street (NoDa). Modest homes owned by millworkers and a small commercial area grew up in the neighborhood around the factories. Many of those homes are still standing as are the storefronts that served the millworkers.
When the textile industry shuttered in the late 1950's artists moved into the empty buildings, drawn to the large spaces with natural light -- and low rents. By the 1980's NoDa was the well-established hub for artists and creatives to work, live, exhibit and play.
Today, NoDa is a neighborhood with a distinct vibe. And, it is unique to Charlotte because much of the built environment is original, just repurposed for today's needs. With the mix of artist, craftsman and laborer, the place has soul.
